Datakom Journey: From Calm Waters to Strong Waves

Summer always brings a desire to step out of the usual routine — to leave behind daily tasks, computer screens, and meetings, and head into something different. With exactly this mindset, the Datakom team set off on our latest team-building adventure — this time, on the water.

Our route began along the Buļļupe River, continuing into the Daugava and circling around Love Island. Equipped with boats and SUP boards, we started the journey full of enthusiasm and curiosity — what kind of adventure awaited us?

From the very beginning, it was clear the day would be a success. The weather was warm and sunny, the water calm, and the atmosphere full of true summer energy.

Conversations, laughter, and a bit of friendly competition between teams created a relaxed and positive mood. As we paddled along, Riga revealed itself from a completely different perspective — quieter, greener, and more peaceful than we are used to seeing in everyday life.

To add an extra layer of excitement, we also took part in a photo orienteering activity. It was more than just a fun task — it encouraged us to notice details and discover places we would normally pass by without a second thought. Teams explored, searched, captured moments, and competed, all while strengthening collaboration and team spirit.

However, like any real adventure, not everything went exactly as planned.

When it was time to head back, nature decided to challenge us. The wind picked up, the water grew rough, and the waves became significantly stronger. The return journey was no longer a calm ride — it turned into a true test.

This was the moment when the strength of the team truly showed. Every paddle stroke required more effort, every meter forward demanded determination. But it is precisely in moments like these that teamwork matters most. With mutual support, encouragement, and a shared goal, we pushed forward — wave after wave — until we safely reached the shore.

Tired, but proud.

This day was more than just a boat or SUP trip. It was an experience that pushed us out of our comfort zone, tested our resilience, and strengthened our team. It was a day where laughter met challenges — and every challenge became a shared victory.

We might take a short break from such windy water adventures… but one thing is certain — this experience will stay with us for a long time.

Because the best stories are the ones that don’t go perfectly.

And we’re already looking forward to the next adventure.
